Avalanche Danger Update

Issued Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 10:30am:

*Dangerous avalanche conditions*

Natural avalanches are possible; human triggered avalanches are likely.

Careful snowpack evaluation, cautious route-finding, and conservative decision-making will be essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain.

Northerly winds capable of wind loading upper elevation terrain are currently affecting the mountains of Chugach State Park.  Avalanche danger has increased and will continue to increase until winds capable of moving loose snow decrease, or there is no more significant loose snow available for transport.

Check out the recent advisories and observations to better understand current conditions.  Get avalanche educated, if you aren’t already, in order to be able to avoid and/or manage the hazard.
